USAT Liberty Wreck

Resting just off the shore of Tulamben, the USAT Liberty is one of the most iconic and accessible wreck dives in the world. This 120-meter WWII-era cargo ship was torpedoed in 1942 and later pushed into the sea by the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, where it now lies between 8 and 30 meters deep. Over the decades, the wreck has become a thriving reef, draped in soft corals and surrounded by vibrant marine life. Just a short swim from the USAT Liberty, Coral Garden is a shallow, calm site perfect for beginners, snorkelers, and underwater photographers alike. This vibrant reef features a mix of natural corals and artistic artificial structures—Balinese statues, pyramids, and even a wire-frame plane—designed to support reef restoration. These elements attract a rich variety of marine life including ribbon eels, clownfish, frogfish, and ghost pipefish. With excellent visibility and little to no current, Coral Garden is a peaceful dive with plenty to explore and capture on camera.

Drop Off

A dramatic underwater wall created by ancient lava flows, the Drop Off plunges steeply just beyond the shore, offering a thrilling dive for all levels with good buoyancy. Starting from a black sand beach, you’ll follow the wall adorned with vibrant corals and hiding places for octopuses and scorpionfish. Keep an eye on the blue — larger pelagics like barracuda and reef sharks occasionally pass by. The shallows at the top of the wall provide a beautiful and colorful return as you ascend. Depth ranges from 8m to beyond 40m, with generally calm to moderate currents.

Nusa Penida
